A House Divided by Harvick and Edwards

Even more common is the showing of support for their favorite sports team. Take enough turns around our neighborhood you’ll spot a banner or flag for a baseball or football team, or even a NASCAR driver [I actually see a Ward Burton flag hung up every race day].

One house proudly sports a large inflatable Brutus Buckeye which brings a smile to this Ohioan’s face each time I drive by it. Another house hangs not only the Purto Rican flag, but just above it flies “Old Glory.”

However, the most common display of fanaticism here is for college football. There seems to be a fairly even split of Clemson Tiger and Carolina Gamecock fans. As one drives through my neighborhood one will spot the yard signs, bumper stickers, mail box wraps and flags draped throughout. One would think these colleges were right here in my town, but they’re not.

A house in particular stands out in my neighborhood. Not because they have overdone their fanaticism for their team, but because they are a “house divided.” On game days they have a large flag similar to this one that hangs from one of their bedroom windows on the second floor. One half sports the Tiger’s colors while the other half dons the colors of the Gamecocks. The flag even proclaims they are “A House Divided.” A fact even more evident during cookouts and get-togethers where once again the support for the two teams appears evenly split as judged by the shirts and hats the participants are wearing.

I know this phenomenon goes on in NASCAR homes as well. All across NASCAR nation there are “houses divided.” Examples such as “Earnhardt vs. Gordon,” “Earnhardt Jr. vs. Gordon,” “Stewart vs. Johnson,” “Budweiser vs. Miller Lite,” and “Kyle Busch vs. …well everyone I rekon.”

My house has always been split, but never divided. That was until recently. My son is a fan of not only Kyle Busch, but also of Carl Edwards. Me? Well, I’m wearing a #29 shirt now as I write this entry. My wife? Well, she is staying out of it. Instead she is opting to focus on the great run Kasey Kahne had Saturday night.

Certainly not by design, but with the “turf war” between Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick having taken place this last week, I now find myself residing in a “house divided.” So, do you live in a “house divided?” If so, name the polar opposites and share a comment or two about it if you have any.

Harvick & Edwards Tussle The toe-to-toe standoff escalates to shoving! The shoving and tugging of uniforms results in Carl going for the throat. Bystanders begin to get involved in an effort to separate the two drivers. A none too Happy Havick shoves Carl onto the hood of Harvicks own #33 Nationwide Series car.

My house is divided between my wife and I. Her fantasy picks are always good and mine suck!

I love pic #5 above. It’s good to see Carl ending up on his ass (or close to it). I got all bent out of shape when Edwards pulled his tough guy routine on Kenseth last year. Then I decided that I was being to judgmental and should enjoy that the boys will be boys and not wish for a sanitized sport where everyone gets along.

So, I went back to liking ‘The Carl’. What I take out of this little fracas is more respect for Harvick. From the looks of the pics he put Edwards in his place.

Four or Five frames of pictures does not a story make.

Edwards had the backbone to admit his mistake at ‘Dega, when’s the last time you heard Harvick admit a mistake? Hell, if he caused a wreck, he’d be claiming the driver in front of him checked-up.

    Nope, I’m afraid that once a “yip-yip” dog, always a “yip-yip” dog.

Racing odds are incredibly complicated to predict these days, but we do try our best. I have to say I'm fairly confident in taking my fantasy picks on the melbourne cup 2008. My past records are enough to convince me that I could succeed with a caulfield cup bet, and I encourage all those that think they can hack it to give it a try if they can.
