Jimmie Johnson Daytona 500 Winner
February 19th, 2006 by Darren (NASCAR Geek)Whether you are a 48-hater or lover you got to give Jimmie Johnson and the whole #48 crew the recognition they are due. Well, maybe you don’t, but I do.
Jimmie Johnson must have gnawed on the zingers that Greg Biffle shot his way during the 2005 NASCAR season. Johnson drove a clean (patient he says) race. He didn’t cause a single wreck and pulled off the victory.
Jimmie Johnson has never been ‘my driver’, but I had always respected him and Chad Knaus. That is, until Johnson caused the Talladega wreck and blamed Dale Earnhardt Jr. And, Knaus got busted for the shocks at Dover. Not the first such infraction for either, and the final straw in my ‘warm fuzzy’ feelings toward the pair.
With that said, I think it is a testament to their determination and desire to be NASCAR Nextel Cup Champions that they won the Daytona 500 today.
So, even though I may not like ya. Congratulations #48 team.

They did do a good job. JJ’s not my fav in the world, but he raced a great race. This week has cretainly been a wild ride in the NASCAR world tho.

Hey Clance,
Yeah, Knaus out for 3 more weeks. I’d think that it has to mess with Chad’s head more than it effects the team on Sunday. You’d think that he will really think twice now before tweaking the car in any gray areas.
What is bad for those involved is the black cloud it puts over the entire camp. Ryan Newman said it best, (paraphrased) “3 or 4 of the last races Johnson has won was with a car that failed some kind of pre-race inspection.”

Number 48 Wins the 48th Daytona 500
This years Daytona 500 should have a post race name change to the Irony 500.
Ironic because Jimmie Johnson’s #48 bags his first 500 in the events 48th running. Ironic that a team heavly criticised in the past for creating “big ones̶…
